A case report of a sudden adolescent death from a rare cause: rupture of a saccular thoracic aneurysm complicating undiagnosed coarctation of the aorta

Introduction: Coarctation of the aorta is one most commonly encountered congenital heart diseases accounting for about 7% cases. With early childhood diagnosis and development corrective surgical intervention, undiagnosed aortic coarctation presenting as sudden unexpected death today a rarity. Fatal complications such rupture or dissection, endocarditis ruptured cerebral aneurysm can arise when left untreated. We report rare case involving an adolescent female found to have at autopsy with saccular thoracic hemothorax. Case description: A healthy 17-year-old girl was dead on arrival Emergency Department district hospital after collapsing home following short history breathing difficulties. forensic revealed massive left-sided hemothorax heretofore pre-coarctation that has ruptured. On histology, wall be deficient in tunica media no evidence dissection. Discussion conclusion: The clinicopathology coarctation-associated aneurysms will discussed.
